PAMLICO CUP HOSPICE REGATTA
October 3-4, 2003
What could be better than competing in a good
sailboat race, going to two great parties, helping to raise money
for a meaningful cause, and winning an expense paid trip to race
a J/105 in a national championship - and doing it all in the same
weekend?
You are invited to participate in the Pamlico Cup Hospice Regatta,
which will take place in Bath, NC during the first weekend in October.
Sponsored by the Pamlico Cup Hospice Regatta, Inc., a 501(c)3 charity,
and the Pamlico Sailing Club, the regatta will become an annual
event benefiting local hospice groups. The primary beneficiary of
the 2003 regatta will be Roanoke Home Care and Hospice, which has
provided support to terminally ill patients with limited life expectancy,
and to their families, since 1984. Services are provided to families
living in Martin, Tyrrell, and Washington counties and the surrounding
area.
You've probably been invited to participate in other charity regattas,
which primarily raise money from the sailors who participate. Well,
the Pamlico Cup - and the other 19 Hospice Regattas held around
the nation - follow a slightly different path. We'd definitely welcome
your tax-deductible contribution. But the objective of each Hospice
Regatta is to provide a great race and party, which draws sailors
for good competition, and becomes an event that draws in contributions
from sponsors and spectators.
Here's a part of what we have planned for the Pamlico Cup Hospice
Regatta:
· A Captain's Reception, Pig Pickin', and entertainment on
Friday Evening
· Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday
· Racing in the Pamlico River on Saturday - including a "Cruising"
class for those who don't usually race their boats and special classes
for multi-hulls and one-design boats
· A flotilla of boats will allow sponsors and spectators
to watch the racing
· Dinner, Awards, and a Dance on Saturday Evening
Your $85 entry fee includes a souvenir tee shirt and two tickets
to all the shoreside events. And if you register early, your boat
name will be printed on your tee shirt. Extra tee shirts and shoreside
activity tickets are available for your crew and family at a small
cost.
Your real prize for competing in the Pamlico Cup will be your contribution
to a good cause, but we'll be awarding trophies in each class. What's
more, the overall winner of the Pamlico Cup Hospice Regatta will
receive an invitation to represent us at the National Hospice Regatta
Championship to be held in Annapolis, MD in the spring of 2004.
Transportation costs and lodging will be subsidized for the winner,
and his crew, and you will be racing on a J105 provided by the National
Hospice Regatta Alliance.
Mark your calendar and plan to be a part of this exciting event.
