New Jersey - Raritan Bay

New Jersey Hospice Cup
September 12-14, 2008

On September 12-14, 2008, the Raritan Yacht Club in Perth Amboy, NJ, will sponsor the Second Annual New Jersey Hospice Cup.

Proceeds will benefit the nonprofit hospice members of the New Jersey Hospice and Palliative Care Organization for their charity care of terminally-ill New Jerseyans and their families.

There are many opportunities to support this effort, ranging from signage on sails and at the clubhouse, program ads in the commemorative advertising journal, as well as booster listings for individuals at various levels.

New Jersey Hospice Cup - First Year
September 14-16, 2007

NJ Hospice Cup Regatta Raises $40,000 for Free Care

The first New Jersey Hospice Cup yacht regatta, sponsored Sept. 14-16 by the
Raritan Yacht Club to benefit the nonprofit hospice members of NJHPCO, raised over $40,000, net proceeds from which will be donated through NJHPCO to nonprofit member hospices that document unreimbursed care to patients and families.

On the first day of the three-day regatta, dozens of leaders of NJHPCO member hospices gathered for a luncheoncruise on the Cornucopia Princess dining yacht to view short-distance match races between boats of identical construction. The brisk winds and overcast skies made for lively competition between the racers. On Saturdayand Sunday, longer races were held. Saturday’s crews benefited from good winds, but on Sunday, winds slowed to the point where re-entry to the yacht club dock at day’s end was slowed.

The Yacht Club sponsored an oyster roast Saturday night at its Perth Amboy clubhouse for the many
sailing teams at the weekend races. Sunday evening saw presentations of prizes — three in each of four
categories and a permanent New Jersey Hospice Cup to the overall winner.

This was the first in what will be an annual event held under the auspices of the National Hospice Regatta
Alliance, which oversees similar events in about two dozen locations nationwide. Winners of local regattas are eligible to compete in the national regatta starting in the local regatta’s second year.
NJHPCO thanks the Raritan Yacht Club for its leadership in creating the event and its commitment to increasing access to hospice care throughout New Jersey.
