Dear Skippers--

Congratulations on qualifying to compete in the 2008 Hospice Regattas National Championship in beautiful Annapolis, Maryland on May 9-10-11, 2008! You and your team have the opportunity to race against the best teams from hospice regattas throughout the U.S. as well as sail with accomplished Annapolis area boat owners and or their representatives.

This advance notice is to introduce you to the process and the information you can expect between now and the championship.

The Championship is in its ninth year. Most years the basic organization is the same, and this year is no exception. Refer to the 2007 Championship page on www.hospiceregattas.org for a look at last year’s event and to check for 2008 details as they are posted. If you had the pleasure to participate in a previous Championship, you will recognize many of the volunteers working to make it successful.

There are two important dates to note now:

January 30 - No later than January 30, please reply to this email to confirm you intend to compete in the championship. That will allow us to make sure that your local regatta is represented even if you cannot attend, by inviting the alternate skipper.

March 1 - Your actual entry will be due March 1. At that time we will ask for the registration fee, contact information, crew names, and any special requests such as for additional crew. We will notify you when the Notice of Race and entry form are available, in time for you to meet the entry deadline.

Please note each member of the crew including you, the Skipper, must include on your entry form valid ISAF Classification numbers (see below). If you have any questions about this, please contact Championship Team Coordinator Linda Ambrose by email at lambrose@hospiceregattas.org. She will be your primary contact for all sailing-related arrangements for you and your crew. (One item on which she will follow up with you is obtaining a brief sailing bio from each of you. See the current and previous skipper lists on the web site for examples).

(For those not previously registered with ISAF, go to http://www.sailing.org/ and click on the Sailors tab. There you can easily get a registration number and apply for your classification. The Championship entry form will ask for the actual number, i.e., 432BC not "Cat. 1").

We will continue to communicate with you during the next few months but if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email nhra@hospiceregattas.org and the right member of the Championship Committee will reply. We all are working hard now to make sure that you have a great event in May.

Congratulations again on qualifying for the Championship. I look forward to meeting you in May!
